Bomberman is back, and he’s all fired up on Nintendo Switch!

Settle it with pyrotechnics in Super Bomberman R, as the classic series makes its return on Nintendo Switch. While the rules are the same, the style is all-new, with 3D stages, high definition graphics and online multiplayer*.

The party-battle game returns!

In Super Bomberman R, move around maze-like grids, placing bombs to vanquish your opponents, all while collecting power-ups to bolster your abilities.

It’s equal parts strategy and destruction, as if you corner a player with one of your bombs, they’re done for! Make sure you’re careful though – just because they’re your bombs, it doesn’t mean they won’t hurt you too.

More friends, more fun

With local and online* multiplayer for up to eight players, it’s every bomber for themselves. Get into the action on the big screen in TV mode, link up to eight Nintendo Switch consoles together for multiplayer in handheld mode, or even enjoy local multiplayer on one screen wherever you are using tabletop mode**. Will you keep your cool under pressure, or do you have a short fuse?

Take a look at multiplayer and modes.

Save the galaxy

Bombing solo? No problem! Super Bomberman R also includes a Story Mode, featuring fully voiced cutscenes and over 50 levels. Taking place across a variety of locations, from factories to overgrown temples, you’ll have to use more than fancy pyrotechnics to get the job done. Activate switches, collect keys and take on huge bosses in the Bomberman Rangers’ biggest challenge yet. You can even bring a friend or family member along for the ride for a co-operative bombing experience, just by passing them a Joy-Con.

Multiplayer

Let’s battle!

Who’s up for a little combustible chaos? With support for up to eight players on one Nintendo Switch and a selection of maps and power-ups, Super Bomberman R’s multiplayer harkens back to the feel of the Super Nintendo classic. Be warned: not all maps play the same. Expect environmental hazards such as slippery surfaces, magnets that move your bombs and falling floors that might require a change in tactics. You can even connect up to four Nintendo Switch consoles together to play local multiplayer*.

Revenge time

Did you meet a fiery end? Don’t lose hope! If you fall on the battlefield, you reappear on the sidelines in a Revenge Cart. From here, you can move around the edge of the map, throwing bombs onto the stage, attempting to add a little chaos for the remaining players to deal with. If you successfully manage to take out a player you’ll swap places, giving you a second chance at victory.

Power-up!

It wouldn’t be a Bomberman game without a selection of power-ups, and many of the old favourites are back. Some power-ups will increase your blast radius, allow you to place additional bombs or boost your movement speed – or even let you punch your way out of an explosive situation! Just stay away from that Skull…

Take a look at all the power-ups!

Go on a spending spree

As you play you’ll earn coins, which can be exchanged in the in-game shop. Want to add a dash of personality to your Bombermen? Why not outfit them with a new hat? Feel like playing on a new stage? You can unlock those too! You can even unlock additional characters. Be the envy of all your bombing buddies when they see you styling on the battlefield, wearing a small tree as a hat. Fierce.

Take the fight global

NSwitch_SuperBombermanR_02.jpg

Have you taken on everybody in your local area? In Super Bomberman R’s Online Battle** mode, you can take the fight worldwide, with two options to choose from – League Battle and Free Battle.

In League Battle, you’ll progress through the rankings, earning Battle Points (BP) as you fight against similarly ranked opponents. There are multiple levels to make it through, from the lowliest ranks to the very top of the table. As you accumulate BP, your ranking will also increase. Be careful – losing a match means losing that precious BP, and you’ll risk relegation to a lower rank.

If you feel like playing by your own rules, free of the burden of competition, then Free Battle might be the way forward. In Quick Play, you’ll be randomly matched with a room looking for players. If you and your friends have your own plans in mind, select Create Room to set the stage and various rules, before battling it out to the last player standing.

Fancy saving the galaxy instead? Why not try Story Mode?

Story Mode

The galaxy’s about to explode!

You may know the classic White Bomberman Ranger, but have you met his extended family? The eight Bomberman Rangers are called into action once again to stop the Evil Emperor Buggler and his lackeys, the Five Dastardly Bombers!

NSwitch_SuperBombermanR_03.jpg

The Bomberman Rangers are going to have to take down these volatile villains through 50 stages of thrilling action. Don’t expect to just destroy everything in your path on the way to victory. Each level has specific objectives, such as escorting characters to safety, or surviving a huge onslaught of enemies. You can also expect some huge mechanised bosses, as the Five Dastardly Bombers aren’t going to go down without a fight.

Meet the Rangers

CI_NSwitch_SuperBombermanR_Rangers.jpg

White, Black, Pink, Blue, Red, Yellow, Aqua and Green have all assembled to take down the Evil Emperor Buggler. This fiery family is going to have their work cut out for them this time, but we’re sure they can handle it. After all, they’ve learned to live with each other. Each Ranger has their own unique personality, so why not pick the one you identify with most?

Warning! Evil approaches!

CI_NSwitch_SuperBombermanR_Buggler.jpg

It’s that dastardly Evil Emperor Buggler, arch nemesis of the Bomberman Rangers! The mastermind of misery, Buggler is pretty much the worst. Alongside his hazardous helpers, he’s planning on wiping out the galaxy. As a cyborg, he’s upgraded himself to take down the Bombermen!

CI_NSwitch_SuperBombermanR_KaraokeBomber.jpg

Buggler's underlings, the Five Dastardly Bombers – Magnet, Golem, Phantom, Plasma and Karaoke – are a force to be reckoned with. Each villain has their own unique abilities, from Phantom Bomber’s deadly decoys to Golem Bomber’s crushing weight. Battling against these foes is going to put your skills to the ultimate test, so expect the unexpected. Just don’t let Karaoke Bomber sing – those pipes are lethal.

Need a hand?

NSwitch_SuperBombermanR_04.jpg

Emperor Buggler is a lot to take on solo, so if you feel like you could use a little help, bring a friend along for the ride. Story Mode supports local co-operative play, so pass a Joy-Con to a friend and team up in the fight against evil.
